happy father's day!

my dad's quite a character. over the course of my life he's crashed motorcycles, surf boards, and boats. he's been a sunday school teacher, soccer coach, ship captain, and pizza baron. more recently he's become a bit of a mad scientist: in mid-july, he'll be opening salem's first 3D, dark light, mini-golf pirate adventure (i tried to include a link, but the website for pietro's pizza must be top secret; i can't find it). i find this unusual enterprise to be emblematic of my father's personality. he tends to operate in two modes: goofy, light-hearted, and laid-back or business savvy serious. the mini-golf is a little bit of both.

i've learned a lot from my dad. i read the good book, watch world cup highlights, pilot the occasional water craft, and eat a lot of pizza. i don't plan to invent a new kind of mini-golf, but he has pushed me to use my creativity in my own way. yep, i'm lucky; my dad does the stuff that dads are supposed to do--love, encourage, and discipline. it may sound elementary, but my dad's the best!

he also does facial expressions and sports a nifty green fanny pack:

blogging sucks

i hate blogging.

okay, maybe i just hate writing stories.

well, i probably just hate writing ongoing stories for my blog. i hate that i only have forty minutes to turn a phrase and conceive a plot. i hate playing scrabble with my sentences while battling the clock (i.e., my bedtime) and chatting with my roommate.

beth the s.o. 'google sucks.' seward, alaska.

that's right, i hate google and every billion dollar grossing gimics
they throw our way. mark just downloaded their new google screensaver; guess what. it sucks! and, as you will soon realize, their picture hosting program (hello) and blog server (blogger.com/blogspot.com) also suck. if things were working properly, you'd see that this is a picture of me (actually, despite google's suckiness, if you click the stupid little icon, you should still see the picture). i'm humbly laughing as beth takes a picture of me and my amazing dam, but you can bet that i'm not laughing now. laughter sucks, and it makes me angry.

Alaska pics 4 (the end)

i'd love to hear feedback on any of these pictures or opinions on which, if any, to print & frame. however, many of these pics have been posted at beth's request for memory purposes rather than any aesthetic value. pictures with an '*' are currently under printing consideration. AND, BE GLAD; this is the final segment from alaska. oh, i'm especially having trouble deciding between glacier pictures...

*2. Andrew David 'At the Foot' Seward -- i can't decide which i like the best; i'd like to narrow it down to 1 or 2
*3. Andrew David 'Some of the Glacier' Seward -- there are no anchovies in this picture.
4. Ramon David 'Trail-worn Hikers' Seward -- beth and i.
*5. Andrew David 'Even Less of the Glacier' Seward -- like i said, i can't decide which of these pictures to like the best.
*6. Andrew David 'Vertically Speaking' Seward -- agg ximba.
7. Andrew David 'Moose!' Seward -- taken from long range from the back seat of the truck

9. Ramon David 'PDA' Seward -- i wonder how long till someone asks me to remove this...

2. Andrew David 'Work is for People Who Don't Know How to Fish' Homer -- the vehicle of our fishin guide.

4. Andrew David 'Fish Family' Homer --
5. Andrew David 'Fish Face' Homer -- she's a fish, and she's holding a fish...go figure....
6. Andrew David 'Where are the heads?' Homer --
*7.
Andrew David 'McKinley' Denali St Park -- again, i have a 12 dozen of these shots...
8. Andrew David 'Beth McKinley' Denali St Park -- i like posting this picture right beside the other one. give me props for that.

1. Andrew David 'Beth and Bad Sky Glacier' Juneau -- the title says it all.
2. Andrew David 'Train butt' Skagway -- i'm attracted to this picture for the same reason that i like taking senseless pictures of bumper stickers. don't know why.
3. Andrew David 'Whale of a Time' Inside Passage -- i know. you can hardly see it. just pretend...
4. Andrew David 'The Patriot' Inside Passage -- even funnier, ahem, i mean more patriotic, in person (i just watched 'good night and good luck' so i feel like i should be a little careful with my words)
*5. Andrew David 'World Without End' Inside Passage -- i really like this picture for some reason. i just love the clouds and the sunspots...
6. Andrew David 'Mum and Dad and Bad Sky Glacier' Juneau -- again, the title says it all.
*7.
Andrew David 'Lighthouse Blue' Inside Passage -- see #11. can't decide if either of these work. or, if so, which works best.
*8. Andrew David 'Ice Cream Outcast' Skagway -- this belongs to one of my favorite photo series that features people. so many comical expressions.
*9. Andrew David 'When Towns Go Postal' Somewhere between Skagway and Whitehorse?
10. beth the s.o. 'The crazy people I hung out with for 10 long days' Somewhere between Skagway and Whitehorse?
*11. Andrew David 'Lighthouse Pale' Inside Passage -- see #7. can't decide if either of these work. or, if so, which works best.
12. Andrew David 'The Dawn Princess' Skagway -- :)
13. Ramon or Susan David 'The couple that ate all of our food' Somewhere between Skagway and Whitehorse? -- i think we look awkward here, but beth liked it.
14. Andrew David 'Let There Be Life' Inside Passage -- i like this for the same reason as #2
15. Andrew David 'Bear Attack' Skagway -- :)
16. Andrew David 'Some Engines That Could' Skagway -- boring?
17. Andrew David 'Ferry Jaw' Juneau -- boring?

*1. Andrew David, 'Pensively Beth' Ninilchik -- i think this might have been nice with a little more colour and contrast
*2. Andrew David 'Mt. Redoubt' Nilnilchik -- for some reason mt. redoubt didn't live up to its name in this pic. if it were bigger and brighter, it would offer more contrast to the flowers. as is, its too...backgroundy
3. Andrew David 'Nilnilchik sign' Nilnilchik -- not sure why i decided to post this one. i think i just like signs.
4. Andrew David, 'Potholey Road' Homer -- i like the rust in this picture, but not sure how to accentuate its coolness. oh, well. we actually had to turn back on this road because the potholes and 70% grade would have capsized our rigs.
*5. Andrew David 'Spit' Homer -- perhaps the colours are too washed out here...? i was hoping to let Homer speak for herself.
*6. Andrew David 'Homer berries' Homer -- as you can perhaps tell, i'm not great at night photography (this is at 11:3o or so). i was hoping that the berries would be a little bit more like my shirt in picture #8 -- bright red
7. Andrew David, 'Searching' Ninilchik -- i like this one of beth and the ruffles eating stranger.
8. beth the s.o. 'Run aground' Nilnilchik -- about 60 years ago, when they first built this boat, they apparently had sky-coloured paint.
